Types of outdoor showers

Outdoor showers are the perfect complement for our garden or swimming pool. There are different types of showers depending on the intended use: solar showers, showers with foot wash, portable showers, etc.

Solar showers

Solar showers use the sun to heat the water stored in their tank and come with a regulator to choose between cold or hot water. Their price is somewhat higher but this is compensated by the savings in electricity from harnessing solar energy. Depending on the size of the tank, the water will take more or less time to reach the ideal temperature.

Standard outdoor showers

The most common outdoor showers have a water sprayer at the top with a pressure regulator. Installation of this type of shower is straightforward, but we recommend having basic plumbing knowledge to carry out the connections.

Outdoor showers with foot wash

Outdoor showers with foot wash are exactly the same as the showers described above, but they include a second water sprayer with an independent activator in the lower area, allowing you to cool down or clean only your feet when needed.

Portable showers

Portable showers are an ideal option if you have limited space for installation or if you prefer a shower that can be moved easily. There are two types of portable outdoor showers: garden showers with a spike and garden showers with a tripod.

• Outdoor showers with spike: they have a spike at the base that can be driven directly into the ground or lawn where you choose to place them.
• Outdoor showers with tripod: this type of portable pool shower has an adjustable three-legged system that folds and unfolds easily so you can place the shower wherever you like at any time.

Shower trays

Depending on the type of shower you install in your available space, a shower tray may or may not be necessary. For outdoor showers, the most common approach is to place the shower in an area that already has drainage and a surface that does not require a shower tray. However, occasionally a shower tray made of wood slats or colored resin is installed to give the shower area a design touch and a clearly defined space.

Outdoor showers in different materials

Reinforced plastic

Reinforced plastic outdoor showers are the most affordable on the market. For a small investment you can acquire the shower, but bear in mind that they are more fragile than others and have a much shorter lifespan.

Stainless steel

Stainless steel outdoor showers should be our priority, since as elements that will be in constant contact with water, this material will prevent degradation of the water circuit due to corrosion or oxidation. Keep in mind that this type of shower must be anchored to the ground due to its weight.

Aluminum

Outdoor showers made of aluminum are lightweight and much more resistant than plastic ones, although they carry a greater risk of oxidation or corrosion than those made of stainless steel.

How solar showers work

Their operation is exactly the same as regular showers, with the difference that solar showers have a water storage tank that is heated by the so-called solar collector. As a general rule, these tanks can typically store around 20 liters of water.

The heating capacity of the solar shower will depend on the external material of the shower. We can find solar showers in aluminum, resin, stainless steel, etc. The color of the shower's finish also plays a significant role, with black-colored models having the greatest capacity to heat water and requiring the least time to do so.

The location of the solar shower must be carefully considered, since if the chosen spot does not receive sufficient sunlight, the water will not reach the desired temperature or will not maintain its heat throughout the day.
